9 Days Northern Circuit Kilimanjaro

Day 0: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, a vibrant town located near Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • Meet with Mr Andrew or Our representative for a briefing and equipment check.
  • Spend the day resting, exploring Moshi, and preparing for your trek.
  • Overnight stay in a hotel or lodge in Moshi.

Day 1: Moshi to Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Drive from Arusha to Londorossi Gate (about 4-5 hours).
  • Complete park formalities at the gate and meet your porters.
  • Begin your trek through lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
  • Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780m).

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Trek through the rainforest, ascending to the heath zone.
  • Enter the Shira Plateau and enjoy scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
  • Reach Shira 1 Camp (3,505m/11,499ft) for dinner and overnight camping.

Day 3:Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

  • Continue ascending through the moorland zone.
  • Trek across the Shira Plateau, a vast expanse with stunning scenery.
  • Reach Shira 2 Camp, nestled beneath the towering Shira Cathedral.
  • Rest and acclimatize at the campsite.
  • Overnight at Shira 2 Camp (3,840m).

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Moir Hut

  • Trek towards the east, crossing a ridge and ascending towards Kibo.
  • Pass through the high desert landscape with sparse vegetation.
  • Arrive at Moir Hut, offering breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • Spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding area.
  • Overnight at Moir Hut (4,200m).
Day 5: Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp
  • Depart Moir Hut and ascend through alpine desert.
  • Traverse the Lent Hills and cross the Buffalo Ridge.
  • Descend into the Great Barranco Valley, with its unique flora.
  • Arrive at Buffalo Camp, nestled beneath the imposing Barranco Wall.
  • Rest and prepare for the challenging climb ahead.
  • Overnight at Buffalo Camp (4,020m).
Day 6: Buffalo Camp to Third Cave Camp
  • Climb the Barranco Wall, a thrilling and challenging ascent.
  • Trek through the Karanga Valley, with stunning views of glaciers.
  • Ascend to Third Cave Camp, located in a sheltered valley.
  • Rest and acclimatize at the campsite.
  • Overnight at Third Cave Camp (3,870m).
Day 7: Third Cave Camp to School Hut
  • Ascend steadily through rocky terrain towards Kibo Hut.
  • Arrive at School Hut, the final camp before the summit attempt.
  • Rest and prepare for the summit push.
  • Pack your summit gear and go to bed early for a few hours of rest.
  • Overnight at School Hut (4,800m).
Day 8: School Hut to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
  • Wake up around midnight for the summit attempt.
  • Begin the challenging climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
  • Reach the summit in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise.
  • Descend back to School Hut for a short rest and breakfast.
  • Continue descending to Mweka Camp through moorland and rainforest.
  • Celebrate your accomplishment with your team at Mweka Camp.
  • Overnight at Mweka Camp (3,100m).
Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
  • Descend through the lush rainforest, enjoying the sights and sounds.
  • Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates.
  • Say farewell to your guides and porters before transferring back to Arusha.
  • Relax and reflect on your incredible journey.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Moshi.
