7 Days Shira Route
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
- Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, a vibrant town located near Mount Kilimanjaro.
- Meet with Mr Andrew or Our representative for a briefing and equipment check.
- Spend the day resting, exploring Moshi, and preparing for your trek.
- Overnight stay in a hotel or lodge in Moshi.
Day 1: Moshi to Shira Gate to Shira Camp 1
- After breakfast, drive to the Londorossi Gate where you’ll complete park entry formalities.
- Continue to the Shira Gate where the trek begins.
- Trek through the rainforest zone to reach Shira Camp 1 at an altitude of around 3,500 meters.
- Set up camp, enjoy dinner, and rest for the night.
Day 2: Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2
- Today’s trek takes you through the moorland zone, with the landscape becoming increasingly sparse.
- Ascend to Shira Camp 2 located at around 3,850 meters.
- Enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its surroundings.
- Rest and acclimatize at camp.
Day 3: Shira Camp 2 to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
- Trek to the Lava Tower at an altitude of approximately 4,600 meters, providing an excellent acclimatization opportunity.
- Descend to Barranco Camp located at around 3,950 meters.
- The descent to Barranco Camp helps with acclimatization and prepares you for the upcoming summit push.
- Camp at Barranco and enjoy dinner before resting for the night.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Begin the day with the famous Barranco Wall climb, a thrilling ascent with breathtaking views.
- Continue trekking through the alpine desert to reach Karanga Camp at approximately 4,000 meters.
- Karanga Camp is nestled in a valley, providing stunning scenery and a chance to acclimatize further.
- Rest and prepare for the next day’s ascent.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
- Trek to Barafu Camp, the final camp before the summit push.
- The landscape transitions to a rocky, barren terrain as you ascend to an altitude of around 4,600 meters.
- Arrive at Barafu Camp, where you’ll rest and prepare for the summit attempt.
- Have an early dinner and get some rest before the midnight summit push.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
- Begin the summit attempt in the early hours of the morning, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro.
- Trek through the darkness with headlamps, navigating steep and challenging terrain.
- Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) in time for sunrise and celebrate your achievement.
- Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and then continue down to Mweka Camp at around 3,100 meters.
- Camp at Mweka Camp for the night, marking the end of your summit journey.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
- Descend through lush rainforest
- Arrive at Mweka Gate (1,640 meters)
- Sign out with park authorities
- Receive summit certificates
- Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha
- Trekking duration: 3-4 hours
- End of the trek
