8 Days Lemosho Route
Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
- Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, a vibrant town located near Mount Kilimanjaro.
- Meet with Mr Andrew or Our representative for a briefing and equipment check.
- Spend the day resting, exploring Moshi, and preparing for your trek.
- Overnight stay in a hotel or lodge in Moshi.
Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
- Drive to the Lemosho Gate (2-3 hours) for registration and permits.
- Begin the trek through lush rainforest, spotting wildlife along the way.
- Reach Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m/9,022ft) for dinner and overnight camping
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
- Trek through the rainforest, ascending to the heath zone.
- Enter the Shira Plateau and enjoy scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
- Reach Shira 1 Camp (3,505m/11,499ft) for dinner and overnight camping.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
- Continue trekking across the Shira Plateau, with gradual elevation gain.
- Pass through moorland and volcanic rock formations.
- Arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m/12,631ft) for dinner and overnight camping.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
- Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m/15,190ft), a significant altitude gain for acclimatization.
- Descend to Barranco Camp (3,950m/12,960ft), passing through the scenic Barranco Wall.
- Enjoy dinner and overnight camping at Barranco Camp.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Trek through the Karanga Valley, with stunning views of the glaciers on Kibo’s southern face.
- Ascend to Karanga Camp (3,995m/13,107ft) for dinner and overnight camping.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
- Trek through alpine desert terrain towards Barafu Camp.
- Arrive at Barafu Camp (4,600m/15,091ft), the base camp for the summit attempt.
- Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit push.
- Early dinner and rest before the summit attempt.
Day 7: Summit Attempt - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
- Begin the summit attempt around midnight, ascending steep scree slopes.
- Reach Stella Point (5,685m/18,652ft) on the crater rim at dawn.
- Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft), the highest point in Africa.
- Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and brunch.
- Continue descending to Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,170ft) for dinner and overnight camping.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
- Descend through lush rainforest
- Arrive at Mweka Gate (1,640 meters)
- Sign out with park authorities
- Receive summit certificates
- Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha
- Trekking duration: 3-4 hours
- End of the trek
