6 Days Machame Route

Day 0: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, a vibrant town located near Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • Meet with Mr Andrew or Our representative for a briefing and equipment check.
  • Spend the day resting, exploring Moshi, and preparing for your trek.
  • Overnight stay in a hotel or lodge in Moshi.

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Transfer to Machame Gate (1,800m).
  • Registration with park authorities and meet your trekking team.
  • Begin the trek through lush rainforest.
  • Lunch break along the trail.
  • Arrival at Machame Camp (3,010m) for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Early breakfast at the camp.
  • Trek through moorland and into the heath zone.
  • Ascend through the scenic Shira Plateau.
  • Lunch stop en route.
  • Arrival at Shira Camp (3,840m) for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

  • Breakfast at camp.
  • Trek towards Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization.
  • Descend to Barranco Valley through the surreal Senecio Forest.
  • Lunch at Lava Tower or Barranco Camp.
  • Arrive at Barranco Camp (3,950m) for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Breakfast at Barranco Camp.
  • Start the day with a challenging climb of the Barranco Wall.
  • Trek through alpine desert terrain.
  • Arrive at Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt (approximately 6-8 hours).
  • Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit push.
  • Early dinner and try to get some sleep before the summit attempt.
Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (Summit) to Mweka Camp
  • Wake up around midnight for the summit attempt.
  • Start the ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • Reach the summit at sunrise if all goes well.
  • Spend some time at the summit, taking in the breathtaking views.
  • Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest.
  • Continue descending to Mweka Camp (approximately 10-14 hours of trekking).
  • Celebrate your accomplishment at Mweka Camp.
  • Dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp.
Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
  • Descend through lush rainforest
  • Arrive at Mweka Gate (1,640 meters)
  • Sign out with park authorities
  • Receive summit certificates
  • Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha
  • Trekking duration: 3-4 hours
  • End of the trek
